Mellish Precision Engineering in Fareham have over 30 years experience in the production of high quality precision components in the fields of Aerospace, Automotive, Medical, Fibre Optics and Electronics. With the latest machinery, Mellish Preciision Engineering is a fast operating factory and is expanding rapidly.
Hampshire Mezzanine Floors were chosen to carry out the new installation of a mezzanine floor refurbishment to create additional space at first floor level for offices, a meeting room, kitchen area and storage equipment.
Moving the offices upstairs has created additional ground floor space to maximise the number of manufacturing machines Mellish can operate.
Hampshire Mezzanine Floors carried out an initial steelwork survey to define exact positioning of the mezzanine columns and mezzanine strut braces. The existing building frame already had main steel running along the front of the building, which was used as part of the steelwork structure to eliminate the number of columns.
The installation was carried out above an existing office on ground floor using a scaffold tower above the office to ensure safe installation. The steels were then safely lifted into position using two genie lifts.
The mezzanine floor achieves 1 hour fire resisting protection, with a 600 x 600 suspended ceiling beneath the mezzanine floor, fascia to the exposed edges of the mezzanine floor and column casings have been fitted around every mezzanine steel column for full fire protection.
Access to the mezzanine floor is by a Part M Steel Staircase with high visibility nosings and it incorporates a half way mid landing to completely comply with DDA regulations.
All new lighting has been surface mounted onto the new ground and first floor suspended ceilings, complete with appropriate emergency lighting in every room. The fire alarm has been upgraded to facilitate all necessary call points, smoke detectors and auio/sounder beacons.
New vinyl flooring has been laid throughout the whole of the firest floor offices, kitchen and storeroom area.
Hampshire Mezzanine Floors have also provided sufficient storage equipment for the new storeroom. The metal shelving has been designed specifically for storage of boxes at various sizes for engineering small parts, maintaining an orderly picking system that is easily accessible. We have also fitted two bays of archive shelving for their paper storage in archive boxes and lever arch files.
Throughout this project, Hampshire Mezzanine floors have worked closely with Architect David Purkiss, who helped design the facility and who undertook the building control application and approval process with Fareham Borough Council.
Mellish Precision Engineering has been another successful local mezzanine refurbishment project in Fareham Hampshire, completed in record time by HMF.
