Anti-Collapse Mesh Installation

Hampshire Mezzanine Floors (HMF) have carried out a number of projects for Pipestock in Romsey for almost a decade.

HMF were asked to provide additional pallet racking for storage of more product and also come up with a design to enable the Pipestock team to be able to handpick within the pallet racking.

The pallet racking was unloaded/loaded using an articulated narrow aisle truck and HMF reconfigured a design for the racking to be reinstalled with 1300mm aisles within the picking face and 2200mm aisles in the pallet replenishment/picking aisles. HMF also arranged for a new spliced design to extend the existing racking in height using an 8 hole splice on the rear uprights of the pallet racking to enable HMF to fit anti-collapse mesh to 1440mm above the existing top beam level.

An additional diagonal brace was fitted from the front upright running at 45 degrees to the extended uprights supporting the anti-collapse mesh to give the rear uprights additional support.

The anti-collapse mesh was designed to have 150mm standoff brackets bolted to the rear uprights of the pallet racking to enable the overhang of pallets to protrude the back by up to 100mm from the rear of the racking.

The construction of the anti-collapse mesh was of box section design with 50mm x 60mm apertures thereby making this safe not only for larger palletised pipework but also large boxed and smaller boxed items.

The installation required 2 scissor lifts to be provided to site to enable the installers to work safely at over 5.2m high and the upright extensions and anti-collapse mesh were fitted in situ to save disruption to Pipestock’s team.

The additional pallet racking was also delivered and installed complete with 3 additional picking levels on the bottom of all the bays with chipboard support bars and 25mm chipboard to enable boxed items to be stored at low level for handpicking.

The rack ends were protected by steel column guards that act as sacrificial steel protectors for the pallet racking as each had 4 heavy duty anchor bolts securing them robustly in place.

HMF also modified the load notice arrangement on the racking to give everyone a clear understanding of the maximum load per pair of beams & bay load accordingly.

The project completed on budget and on programme.
